December Anything Goes Challenge

Since December seems to be the busiest time of year for everyone - and scrapping sometimes gets put on the back burner - the December Challenge will be WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO! Anything goes - you can share anything. I don't want to give any examples - because I want this to be YOUR idea! So, the first part of the challenge is to decide what to do!

To participate in the December Anything Goes Challenge - just  email a picture of your project along with a description to Scrappinpsycho@live.com

All submissions will be posted to The Scrap Our Stash blog and on December 31st a winner will be chosen, and given the opportunity to be a Guest Design Team Member for the month of February. This challenge ends at midnight central time on December 31st.

Scrap Our Stash Design Team Loss

It is with sadness that I have to announce that Design Team Member Joni has decided to resign her position on the Scrap Our Stash Design Team. Joni was one of the first Design Team Members chosen 2 years ago when Scrap Our Stash was created. The attached layout was Joni's original Stash submission which earned her a spot on the first Design Team. Follow this LINK to see all of Joni's contributions to SOS.

Joni has accepted a staff position with Scrapbook News & Review magazine which she thinks will keep her pretty busy.

Joni has been a vital part of the Scrap Our Stash team, and she will be greatly missed.

Meet Design Team Member Elizabeth

I live in Scotland with my husband of 15 years and our adopted cat. I’ve crafted practically all my life – crochet, embroidery, quilting, machine-knitting, cross-stitch – I was four when my grandmother taught me to knit. But it wasn’t until 1995, when I arrived at Wellesley College, MA, as an exchange student from Manchester University that I discovered scrapbooking. On my return to the UK a year later I brought with me books and magazines on scrapbooking, but it wasn’t until I retired in 2008 that I was finally able to really get down to some serious scrapping, and soon, as a way of using the leftover scraps, segued into card making too. I have been so busy experimenting with different techniques that I can’t say I have developed anything but an eclectic style of crafting. However, vintage layouts – as in this layout featuring my mother – are my favourite. Recently, I have been making more of my own embellishments, using stamps, punches, beads and ribbons, in preference to bought ones. Entering challenges helps to make me more adventurous and creative so I am so pleased to be one of the December Guest Designers here at Scrap Our Stash.

Meet Guest Design Team Member Tiffany

Hello from Massachusetts! My name is Tiffany, and my husband and I have 2 crazy kids, 1 hyper dog and 4 cats! I am lucky to have a family that understands and supports my hobby (obsession) with all things crafty. I spend hours each day in the sanctuary of my craft room; creating layouts, cards, altered art, cross stitch and a whole lot more. I'm excited to be part of the team this month as a guest designer, I always have fun using that stash, but now I feel like I have to go shopping again, help!! =)

November Recipe Challenge by Tamara

Design Team Member Tamara submitted this recipe book for the November Recipe Challenge.  She said:

Last year for Christmas gifts, I decided last minute to make books for each of my siblings of recipes from my mom's recipe box. She passed away three years ago and this was one way to share not only her recipes with my siblings but also her handwriting. I used the recipes right from her box and copied them for all. You have to realize that I had to make ten of these so all of us could have our own copy and of course my daughter wanted one when she saw the completed project. It was definately a gift of love.

November Recipe Challenge by Alanna

Design team member Alanna submitted this layout for the November Recipe Challenge.  She said:

I chose the second option - do a page about a recipe. These cute little reindeer chocolates were made by my boyfriend and I for our family Christmas last year and I've been meaning to scrap them all year! The photo isn't the greatest unfortunately, but hopefully we can make them again this year and I'll replace it with a better photo!! I journalled a bit about the reindeer, and the ingredients, on a tag and placed it behind the photo. I realised after I finished writing it though that I forgot to mention the jaffa for the nose! Might have to re write that too!!

November Recipe Challenge by Haley

Design Team member Haley submited this layout for the November Recipe challenge. She said:

I finally got my November challenge ready! This month's challenge was just that, but it was lots of fun to make! We were so surprised this summer when a pair of deer walked right through our campground. We have camped on Hunting Island State Park (SC) for many years, but this was the first time deer visited us. For my layout, instead of using five embellishments, I used five different embellishments on my layout. It may look like I used three patterned papers instead of the required two, but the Crystal Blue frame around my title is the back of the striped paper. All of my supplies are from Close To My Heart except for this tiny blue flowers (source unknown), although this paper line is now retired. If you'd like to see the left companion page, be sure to visit my blog at http://inkyscrapper.blogspot.com.
Thanks,

November Recipe Challenge by Kathy

This was a brand new type challenge for me.  I've never used a recipe for a layout before - so I did it just like I use any recipe - I did a little adapting.  I do have 5 embellishments - my 5 buttons that I sewed on.  I kinda cheated on the 4 word or letter title.  Hero is 4 letters - but the whole title is our Hero!  I do have 3 pictures - of my grandchildren copying their Uncle Jimi, I have 2 patterned papers - and 1 solid (although it's not cardstock - I used the solid red for my mat and to cut out my letters.  So I did almost follow the recipe!  Not bad for me! I hope to do another layout with my Famous corn casserole recipe - but first I have to make it in order to take pictures!

Here is my layout for the November recipe challenge: 5 embellies-4 words or letters-3 pictures-2 pattern papers and 1 solid paper. I used a sketch from Sketches in Thyme and all the papers are from the Recollections paper stack. I also used my Cricut with 3 cartridges - Calligraphy Collections- Accent essentials and Wild Card for the title and hearts and xoxo. I then dry embossed all the cuts on white cardstock and then used my heat gun with silver, pink and red powders to heat emboss just the hearts . Also a Recollections x x x border punch was used. I really enjoyed working with this recipe this month and it works so well, I have already used it on 2 other layouts I did this weekend. I have this layout also on my blog:

November Recipe Challenge by Ren-Yi

Lots of things have been going on at the office, including one of the co-workers becoming a new parent. So in honor of the new daddy role, I madde a couple of baby cards. For inspiration I used the Scrap Our Stash's November Challenge where we are using a Recipe. Kathy has challenged us with:
  • 5 embellishments
  • 4 words or letters
  • 3 pictures
  • 2 pattern paper
  • 1 solid papers
This card is to welcome a little baby into the world and give the parents three cheers!
Bundle of Joy

I managed to cramp the whole recipe onto this little card ;) Yep - go ahead and check :D

Bundle of Joy
This giraffe is so cute, isn't it? I thought the Glossy Accents would be able to give the little guy a little special something to "shine" without sparkling light a Christmas tree. The blue & green color scheme is a great palette to make the yellow really stand out. This card has a recycled element from a bag that I saved (the yellow rope). And the blue rhinestone is a great accent, and so are the clear, sparkly Stickles...
Bundle of Joy

Check out the Scrap Our Stash's November Challenge. You have until the end of the month to finish up. Perhaps some time over Thanksgiving, while everyone is out shopping during that madness? ;)

Design Team Member Tamara submitted this layout for the November Recipe Challenge.  She said:

Hello~ I took the challenge this month with the recipe. I used one blue shimmery cardstock, 2 pattern papers from a company that no longer exists (sorry, just using my stash) I used three photos from my sons trip to Mt. Ranier, my four word title is up to the top! my five embellishments are the snowflakes with buttons and I added journaling to explain the reason for the page. I love recipe challenges because they give me a quick way to flow through a layout. I used the Mt. Rainier photos because they were the next on my table to scrap so I could add them to my book in progress of the year 2001.

Thanks for looking!

Pagerize This Challenge # 16

Each month on the 15th we post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (plagerize, copy, lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be - to use the posted layout as your inspiration to create your own layout. You can "pagerize" as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. You may want to make a layout just like the one posted - or you may just want to use something about the layout as your inspiration.

Guest Design Team Member La Vikinga chose this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge #16.  She said:                                          The Keukenhof flower park in Holland is amazing, it's truly a paradise of colours and flower fragrances!  So get inspired by the colours, the pink, the acrylic paint with bubble plastic, use a transparency or a lot of flowers!

La Vikinga

Once you've completed your layout - email a picture and brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com  All entries will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash. This challenge runs through midnight central time on December 12th. The "Pagerizer" (in this case La Vkinga), will then choose a winner from all the entries. The winner will be announced on December14th. Then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "Pagerize" starting on the 15th of December.

Pagerize This Challenge # 15 Winner

Tamara chose La Vikinga's layout as winner of the Pagerize This Challenge #15.  La Vinkinga's Pagerize This Challenge # 16 will post on November 15th.  Be sure to check it out and take the challenge.Posted by Picasa

November Challenge by Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the November Recipe Challenge.  She said:

I think everyone has a colour nemesis. Two of mine are pink and yellow. Yellow...I just don't care for a whole lot. Pink... well, I've talked before about how a male dominated household means scrapping with pink is not a regular occurrence. So I really surprised myself with this next LO for the November challenge at Scrap Our Stash.  I pulled out this plaid paper by Cosmo Cricket. The yellow and pink reminded me so of a cozy morning. It became the basis for the design behind Pancake Morning.

While there is nothing wrong with pancakes from a box, it's really not hard to just make your own mix. My son loves helping me and so, when the challenge to scrap a family recipe was issued, it was the perfect excuse to make pancakes for breakfast. I should do this more often. I guess I am just more of a " let's have cereal" type of mom. Anyway, to make your own pancakes " not from a box", try this recipe"

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 cup of sugar (yes I know it's a lot of sugar. We like em' sweet. You can reduce the sugar if you want to), 1 Tbsp. baking powder, 1 egg, 1 cup milk, 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil

- stir dry ingredients together - in a separate bowl, mix egg milk and oil, then mix with dry ingredients - spoon onto a heated pan, allow to bubble, then flip and cook until golden brown

It's such an easy recipe! It makes a lot more than we can eat. So I proportion the leftover pancakes into zip loc bags and freeze. I then have my own toaster pancakes!

paper- Cosmo Cricket
ribbon- unknown
BG paper clip
Sassafrass flowers
glass beads
K and Co. chipboard- Let's eat
Pink Paislee pink foam alphas
Rusty pickle brown alphas
 glossy accents
Webster's pages sparkler button
knife and Fork- unknown
tiger lily glimmer mist
Plum pudding smooch spritz
maya road sheer journal spot- recipe card
To make the page more quickly, I left the white edges from the photo paper. The smaller photos are all one sheet of wallet size photos, three to a row. Some of them printed in groups with the photos in those rows aligning the same direction. I kept one group of three and simply cropped away the excess white. I cut the two photos which were horizontal and left the vertical photos in groups of two. This allowed me to save time (and supplies) by having photos that were already matted and easy to place on the page.

I don't have a lot of cooking themed embellishments in my stash. I had a Eureka moment when I discovered food themed embellishments in my travel supplies. Prior to this page, I might never have thought to look in my travel stash for such a thing. I noticed many of the travel themed collections had papers or items about places you had eaten. So next time I have a cooking themed page, I will also look to the travel themed papers.

I am very happy with the title. Glossy accents is one of my go to adhesives. It allowed me to add dimension to the flat brown letters. Now they look more like epoxy letters and I was able to add some glass beads to add more texture.

This year, my goal was to learn how to take better photos of my pages. I am best at photographing one page LO's. Two pagers are very difficult given that they often have a warped or bent look to them. With this two pager, I think I finally found a trick to reduce the warped look and get a more flat, even photo. I placed the LO on a travel trunk which reached to my knees. I was then able to bend over the photo and I found that if I cocked my wrist as I photographed the page, the page came out more flat as I cropped in afterwards. So try finding something to lay your page on that is about the height of your knees and experiment with moving the angle of your wrist.

Overall, I really enjoyed making this page...from staging a photo shoot with a pancake breakfast, to adding the finishing touches on the page. Yes, it's true...I staged the photos.

So now it's your turn. Find a recipe you like and stage your own photos to make a wonderful LO. Don't forget to submit it here at  Scrap Our Stash.

Now it's your turn to take the November Recipe Challenge. You have two choices.

This is fun - to part of Scrap Our Stash (even if it's only for a month!) so I made another LO with stash. "Here's my Pagerize This page with three pictures and blue shades like Tamara's. I even copied the idea of putting a monty under the left picture.... My LO is really made of stash and I used paper pieces from Bo Bunnys last years winter collection and snowflakes from different places to make my own background paper." Greetings from La Vikinga

November Recipe Challenge by Sarah

I really enjoyed the Challenge this month...
At 1st I wasn't sure exactly 'what' to scrapbook. Sooo much isn't done and I'm always behind. I started looking through pictures and came up with the '3', which are from *last years* family Christmas pictures (see... behind!).
These 3 went together, so...
Pictures X3: check!
Then started thinking about recipes... and food...
Remembered I had this 'Recipe of Love' Icon pinned on Pinterest. Perfect!
I printed it off at the same time as the Photos on the glossy photo paper.
The rest,  I had no plans for, I just started and it all just kinda came together.
The 2 pattern papers are both Graphics 45 (Steampunk Debutante and Botanicabella) scraps from my cut-off stash.
Pattern Paper X2: check!
Cardstock is textured Bazzill, rubbed with a red SU! ink spot.
Cardstock X1: check!
Then I got stuck, reeeeally stuck on the 4 words.
Rummaged my stash for a few days and finally I found an idea.
Letters are Teresa Collins.
Comma is the inside of the 'a', so annoying when they don't add these to sticker sets. lol
Letters X4: check!
That left the 5 embellishments... and another day of digging. ;O)
Found a $ store sticker set I bought waaaaay back (at least 4 years ago) and it was perfect!
The right colors, theme to boot... woot!
4 stickers + black ribbon trimming out the pattern paper strips=
Embellishments X5: check!
Recipe, er... Page Done!
I took a few really close up pictures of the stickers, they're just so stinkin' cute. :O)
Glad I found them and got them used. Thank-You again for Scrap Our Stash!

November Recipe Challenge by Stacy

Hi everyone!! It is Stacy here today to share with you the layout I made for the November Recipe Challenge here at Scrap Our Stash. I decided to go with an actual food recipe because I recently found this super easy Pumpkin Muffin recipe on Pinterest. I have made it 10 different ways since I found it and all of the muffins have been extremely easy to make and yummy to eat.

I baked a batch not too long ago to go in some muffin boxes I made with matching cards. I gave them to my children's teachers. These muffins were just that perfect sweet touch to finish out the gift. All you have to do to make the muffins is to mix one box of yellow cake mix with one small can of pumpkin. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. That's it! How much easier could it get?? You can use different flavors of cake mix, you can ice them and you can add nuts. You are only limited by your imagination.
